Hello everyone!

We have some exciting news to share with you! Production for The Gig has officially begun! We are thrilled to see our game come to life and can't wait for you all to play it.

PDF Rules

Additionally, we are happy to announce that after multiple painstaking revisions, the final rulebook is ready to share. You can find it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pDa5WSX65MfxmC3moZcuUGA7z9aRG7HQ/view?usp=sharing

Production Timeline

We did experience a slight setback due to a member of our production team getting COVID-19. However, we are confident that we will be able to deliver the game to you in September. We will of course let you know if there are any further changes to that!

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for The Gig! We can't wait to share more updates with you soon.

Lots of love,

Nearing Mass Production
about 1 year ago – Wed, Apr 19, 2023 at 01:27:20 AM

Hi all,

I come to you all today with very good news! The Gig is tantalisingly close to starting mass production!

We've received the digital (physical, but digitally printed, rather than with a 4-colour press) sample of the game, and having gone through it with a fine tooth comb, we were surprised to find we had remarkably few things that needed changing!

Once we've made some small adjustments to the print files, it'll be off to mass production for The Gig!

So without any further ado, here are some pictures of the samples we received!

Sample Pictures

The Gig and the Encore expansion boxes
Unpacking The Gig
Our ringbound Songbook!
Our player boards and dice trays
All 11 instruments in the core KS Edition box
The Fan cards (these were supplied on an uncut sheet, so I had to trim and sleeve them for playtesting!)
The KS-exclusive Experimental Sessions deck!
The Extra Dice and Luxury Dice Tray sets!

Timeline

With this progress (and similar progress for Last Resort, the other campaign we're currently working to fulfill) we should be able to ship the games simultaneously and fulfill them together in August!

Hope you're all enjoying your springtime! Talk soon!

Delay Lifted! Production Update! BackerKit Closing!
about 1 year ago – Thu, Mar 02, 2023 at 05:05:56 AM

Hello all!

Apologies for the delay in updating you all — I have been (and continue to be!) very busy, so this will be a short one, but luckily full of good news, too!

Good news #1

Our main bit of good news today is that Braincrack has secured some private equity investment in order to help fulfil our outstanding campaigns!

While our investors want to remain private for the time being, I'm happy to say that this strategic partnership has put us back on track to hopefully recover from our struggles over the past year.

Good news #2

We're nearly ready to start production!

We need to make a few more tweaks first, but we should be able to submit our final print files to the factory sometime in the next few weeks. After approving a sample, we can hit the big red button and start getting your games ready!

BackerKit closing

As such, it will very soon be time to close the BackerKit, meaning this is your last chance to grab some of those add-ons if you haven't already! Doing so is a great way to help support us, and we really appreciate it more than you know!

I am planning to lock orders and charge cards on the 17th of March, giving you 2 weeks to make any adjustments you need.

You can do so here: https://the-gig.backerkit.com/

After that point you will still be able to adjust your addresses, so don't worry if you're not sure where you will be when fulfilment comes around!

Right! I should get back to work...

Talk soon!

Production Update! Audience Art Preview!
over 1 year ago – Sat, Oct 15, 2022 at 11:32:05 PM

Hello, Jazz Fans!

We're sorry it's been a minute since our last update – we've been heads-down working on everything!

So we've got a chunky update full of lovely glossy jpegs for you today. First up is looking at our white sample!

Production White Sample

For those who don't know, a white sample is the first real look we get at what the final production copies will look like. As the name suggests, it's unprinted, which makes it easier and faster to make, and means we can do it a little earlier and get a head-start addressing any issues that might come up later on.

Our rulebook and songbook have a lovely linen finish. On the right, you can see what the inside of the box (beneath the player boards, songbook, and rulebook) looks like, with plenty of spare space for the expansion materials, extra dice, and luxury dice trays.

The components can be organised nicely into the four dice trays (one per player – these will be printed) and, of course, the cards fit once sleeved!

The dice trays are a little too snug a fit at the moment though, so we're making them just a few mm smaller in order to be easily removed and replaced in the box. Don't worry, everything will still fit!

Our player boards are big and chunky, taking up most of the box – although this means at present the expansion box size might need to be adjusted slightly, or the player boards reduced. We're exploring our options! They are all double-sided, with the reverse of each showing the generic player board, and "mirroring" the existing design so they make this cool geometric shape.

Of course, the star of the show is the dice. In the image above you can see the Extra Dice Set at the top, the dice that come with the base game in the lower left, and the Encore! Expansion dice sets in the bottom. With the Extra Dice Set (available in limited quantities here) you'll have dice matching the colours of all the instruments (including the KS Exclusive Guest Star instruments!), while the Encore! Expansion (also available here in limited quantities) comes with its own dice, and three new instruments to play!

While these are the prototype boards from our review copies, you can see how satisfying it is when the colours match up nicely!

We of course took the dice for a test run, and they work really well. We didn't have any trouble telling the symbols apart, which – while we playtested extensively in TTS – was always a concern whether or not it would translate well into real life!

Apart from a few size changes and a songbook without its ring binding, there were few issues with the white sample – although the luxury dice trays were one of them! If you're a backer of Last Resort, you'll already be familiar with my shortcomings when it comes to writing the specifications for these! They came out a little dinky, so we're increasing them by a third for the production run. These will also be printed of course, and are available in limited quantities here if you want a rattle-free game with reduced noise (and luxury neoprene feelies.)

We were pretty happy with it all – let us know if there's anything you want to see more of!

Audience Art

One thing that has taken up a lot of my time specifically has been the illustration of the Fan cards for the game! There are 30 cards, and we thought it would be weird if any duplicate faces were staring out at you from the audience, so that meant creating 30 pieces of era-appropriate, funky jazz fans, including 12 of our backers who supplied us with their glamour shots and trusted us with putting them in the game!

Can you spot the backers?!

We worked really hard on them, I hope you like them! Do you have any favourites?

That's all from us for now – hope you have a great weekend, see you in the comments!
